As we all know, Father’s Day is fast approaching. Have you thought about what you are getting the father in your life? Better yet, have you even considered how Father’s Day originated?

Sonora Smart Dodd realized, during a sermon for mothers, that the mother in her life was actually her father. Mrs. Dodd’s mother passed away during childbirth. Inspired by her father’s dedication and care to his children, Sonora proposed the idea of having a Father’s Day. From Spokane, the idea was greeted warmly with open arms. Yet, the rest of the country remained quite hesitant and less inclined to accept the day dedicated to fathers. Congress was especially nervous about the proposed idea for the group was made up of all males and that might have been perceived as self-congratulatory. However, once newspapers promoted the idea further, it caught on and was accepted greatly.

Honor the father in your life. Do not forget the fathers-to-be either. Just as Mrs. Dodd did, show him your appreciation and love.
